Computer Literacy

To introduce beginners to the everyday use of computers.
Participants will acquire knowledge of the basic elements of
hardware and software involved in using computers.
 

Course Content

Computer Operation and Use

• Identify the uses of computers in everyday life
• Safety procedures while working with computers
• List and describe the basic components (parts) of a computer
• Understand and be able to discuss the uses of common software packages

Word Processing

• Opening and entering text in MS Word
• Editing, formatting and saving
• Printing work and closing safely

Spreadsheets

• Opening and closing files safely
• Introduction to software package
• Carry out basic tasks and use simple formulas

Internet & Email

• Set up an Email account
• Send, Reply, Forward Emails
• Use search engines to carry out tasks
• Fill in online forms
• Book holidays, flights, tickets etc

Duration: 7 x 3 hour sessions

Qualification: FETAC Level 3
