FETAC Level 5

Purpose: To provide a practical training programme for people wishing to obtain a certificate in occupational first aid, particularly those with responsibility for first aid in their organisation.
This course includes hands on experience of simulated injuries and accident situations and candidates will be assessed in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) where appropriate.
Course Content
Participants will learn how to:
- Access and manage an accident scene
- Control bleeding and understand the circulatory system
- Render artificial respiration and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
- Explain the functions of an AED (automated external defibrillator)
- Describe when to use an AED
- Examine an unconscious casualty and understand the nervous system
- Deal with burns, poisoning, heart attacks, fits, fainting and a wide range of conditions which require emergency care
Participants will undergo practical incident tests involving simulated emergency situations
- First aid in the workplace
- Patient assessment
- Respiratory emergencies
- Cardiac first response
- Wounds and bleeding
- Altered levels of consciousness
- Musculoskeletal injuries
- Burns and scalds, chemicals, electric shock
Duration: 3 Full Days
Entry Requirements: FETAC Level 4 Certificate, Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualifications and/or relevant life and work experiences
Qualification: FETAC Level 5
